Jesus Christ, Grace, Righteousness, Bible, Good News

Every human being needs to feel loved and to be loved. It is really amazing to see the expressions of love in the animal kingdom. You can see the fearsome lion hunting down its prey without mercy and yet he is so gentle and lovingly kind and patient to his cubs. They can climb over his head, paw at his face, snatch his food and yet he is so patient even though he is so mighty and fearsome.

Have you ever wondered how much your own biological father/mother loves you? I know our dads are all different and they are not perfect! Have you ever had that kind of closeness or feeling that your dad really loves you? For me, I can’t honestly say I had. My dad is a decent man. He works hard and did his part to support the family with his small income. But as a dad, I was never hugged by him; he never said he loved me although he did express his love in a different way. He bought me a new bicycle when he won lottery. But I never felt the closeness with my dad and I can’t say I felt his love. He was  more like a responsible dutiful father. I don’t blame my dad.  He is Asian and perhaps he was brought up that way.

I became a Christian when I was a teenager in my secondary school days. I have been a Christian for many years and yet I did not understand how much my heavenly Father loves me. Yes I know He sent his own son Jesus Christ to die for my sins. In my mind, I was told He loves me but yet I was afraid of Him when I sinned. I felt condemned when my thoughts and actions were not correct. I did not understand how much He loves me. It was a continuous battle to try to do what I think would please Him. I tried not to do the bad or wrong things or else my Father would be very angry with me and I would be afraid to go to Him. I was trying to perfect my flesh to gain acceptance of His love. That was what I thought without knowing how much, how real, how complete, how gracious, how wonderful is my heavenly Father’s love for me. I was looking at myself and not understanding how much He truly loves me that He was willing to send His own son
Jesus Christ to be punished for all sins and condemnation.
Some of us like me may be a Christian for many years but we do not really know our heavenly Father’s love for us? He is our Daddy and He truly loves us unconditionally. How do we know that?

We know that through His Son Jesus Christ whom He has sent to us. Jesus is the perfect expression of our Daddy’s love for us.  Jesus came to reveal the Father’s heart.
Jesus told the Pharisees in John 8:19 “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.” Jesus came to reveal the Father’s heart. He did what His Father told Him to do.

In John 10:30  Jesus said “I and my Father are one”.

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him ….. John 1:18

Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner ….. John 5:19

“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him” ….. John 14:7
How do we know our heavenly Daddy who is also God loves us unconditionally? By looking at Jesus, the gift that He sent to us.  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life”  ……. John  3:16

There wasn’t any condition God gave to save the world from condemnation and to have everlasting life. It was only because of His unconditional love that He provided a way of escape for our sins through His Son Jesus Christ. We only have to believe and receive what His Son Jesus Christ did for us on the cross.

Jesus shared the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-22 to  show us how unconditionally our Daddy God loves us.
11 There was a man who had two sons.
12 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.
14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.
15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.
16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

17 “When he came to his senses, he said, "How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!
18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.
19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’
20 So he got up and went to his father.
“But while he was still a long way off, his
father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw
his arms around him and kissed him.

21 “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’
22 “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
23 Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24 For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.

In this story, you see that the younger son was rebellious, foolish and did all the wrong things that brought shame to the family especially the father. Even though the younger son cursed his father and went away to spend away his money on wild living, the father never forgets him and still loves him unconditionally. He waited every day, looking over the horizon for his son to return. And when he saw his son, he ran towards him, hugged him and kissed him. He told his servant to bring the best robe, put a ring on his  finger and scandals, kill the fattened calf and celebrate his son’s return.
You see the younger son did not deserve any of the blessings that his father gave him when he returned home.  The father blessed him because he is his son and he loves him unconditionally. There was nothing on the son’s part to deserve treated like that with the hugs and the kisses, the best robe, the ring, the fattened calf, the celebration?

The son did not go home because he missed his father. He came home because he was hungry.  Yet his father was so joyous to see him because he loves him.  The father did not see his son’s wrong doings. He did not punish him. In fact he restored him to his position as his son and not a servant even though he knew he was no longer worthy to be called his son.

Our heavenly Daddy is like that. He loves us unconditionally and sends His best gift for us. He sent us heaven’s best, His only Son Jesus Christ to take our place on the cross so that we too can be restored to our position as His son. Our Daddy God does not and will never hold our sins against us. He never wants to condemn us or punish us even though we all have sinned in our flesh and deserved to be punished. But instead He laid it all on His own Son on the cross and through His Son Jesus Christ He restores and gives us everything (salvation, righteousness, acceptance, peace, prosperity …..). He is waiting for us every day to give us a hug and a kiss and to celebrate with us. There was no judgement, there was no punishment. Just the Father’s rejoicing over us.

Jesus shared this story to show us how unconditionally we are loved by our heavenly Father. He is the expression of this unconditional love. The reason Jesus was born was to die for us – for all our sins so that we can be loved by God the Father unconditionally.
Remember John 3:16 “For God so loved you and me  …..”

Though God loves us unconditionally, sins must be punished because He is also a just God. For a God to be just, sins must be punished. And because He loves us unconditionally, He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to be punished for all our sins on the cross.

Today, if you are looking for someone to love you just as you are i.e. unconditionally; you can turn to our heavenly Father. He waits for this moment to stretch out His hands to embrace you and to love you. You don’t have to make yourself good enough for our Daddy God to love you. Let Him love you as you are and let me restore to you all that you have lost – your dignity as a son and not an outcast. His love will transform you from the inside out and it will be Him doing it and not you trying to do it.
Our heavenly Father loves you and if you want to know Him, look at Jesus. He told us “when you have seen me, you have seen the Father”. He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for us so that we can be placed in Him and be  accepted into His family and to call Him Daddy. Jesus Christ is the unconditional gift / love from our Daddy God and He is the only way for us to be restored into His family / kingdom. It is not about our doing, it is just simply accepting the gift He has sent for us. You can simply say in your heart “Father I accept your unconditional gift, your beloved Son Jesus Christ whom you sent to die for all my sins. I accept Him as my Lord and Saviour today and thank you I
am now your son/daughter and I can call you Daddy. Amen”.
