Jesus Christ, Grace, Righteousness, Bible, Good News

Have you ever tried so hard to do the right things to please  someone and ended up frustrated, disheartened and depressed? The reasons could be that :

a)  what you did is not what the person you are trying to please is really looking for OR
b)  you are trying so hard but the other person  doesn’t think so OR
c)  it is so hard to do the right things as those  “right things” are against your own nature and belief. To the other party that  you are trying to please, you have failed. It is either you don’t understand the  right things or you have not done enough or you are not sincere in those right  things you are trying to do.

Similarly in the early part of my church life, I was taught that  to please God, we have to do this and not to do that. It is all about dos and  don’ts.  I believe it is the same  in other religions where there is a set of steps/rules you have to follow or  accomplish in order to be righteous and be pleasing to God. But hard as we tried  and sincere as we could be, we always find ourselves falling short of the  requirements to please God. It is a never ending frustrations and fear as we  battle everyday with our flesh to live a clean life where everything is in place  and we are doing only the “right” things and not doing the “wrong” things.
But praise God, I have found out the Good News ….. It is not the  way I was taught on pleasing God i.e. Do this and Don’t Do that. In fact, my  Daddy God has made it so simple. It is not about me anymore. He put me in Christ  Jesus and is all about Jesus.  The  bible says it this way “As He is, so are we in this world”.
1 John 4:17  “Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”

1 John 3:3  And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself,  just as He is pure.

2 Peter 1:17  For He received from God the Father  honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

Have you heard some sincere  Christians say “Christianity is hard” and some would even say “to live a  Christian life is impossible”. I understand what they are saying as I was there  myself. I empathise with them.

But now, it is such a relief and freedom for me in my Christian walk when I found out that it is not about me anymore (period) but about Christ Jesus. My old self is crucified in the body of Jesus when He hung on the cross and paid for all (and over all) of my sins. My  new self is risen with Him as He raised from the grave and today I am seated
with Him next to our heavenly Daddy God.

I have lost my old identity in myself (my flesh, my failures, my limitations etc) and found a much much much more glorious identity in Christ.

Today I am not trying to be righteousness. I am not trying to do the “good” things to please God. I am already the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. I am not saying it out of pride or irrelevance to God Almighty. I am saying it out of the grace I received and the joy of simply believing and saying what the Word of God says about me.
“As Jesus Christ is, so am I (Francis) in the world”. Today is Christ righteous before God the Father? The bible puts it this way “HE knew not sin, HE did no sin, In HIM was no sin”. So am I before God the Father. I am righteous before God because Daddy God don’t see me in me anymore.  He sees me in Christ Jesus – without sin. That is why God can provide a new covenant that “my sins He remember no more”.

The meaning of Christian is  being Christ-like. The church world has made Christ-like or be like Christ the  part that we must play i.e. we must try our best with all of our strength and  energy and perseverance to do the right things and be as holy and righteous as  Jesus Christ. And we all fail miserably trying to do the right things to be Christ-like.

No, Christianity is simple. It is a gift simply to be accepted. If it is gift and you try to earn it, you are just insulting the giver. So to be Christ-like is not about all your doings. It is about your identity. Who are you at the end of the road when you have tried to do all that you thought you should do. Are you still identified as Mr A or Ms B who tried his/her best and still fall short of the requirements of God’s laws to be counted as righteous? The bible says “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”.

Or do you want to be  standing before God the Father and point your finger at Jesus Christ and proclaim “As He is, so am I”.

See it is your identity in Christ that matters. Stop trying by your old identity, your old self, your own flesh to be righteous like Jesus Christ. You are already righteous in your new identity which is “in Christ”. In the end, it is all about Jesus and nothing about us. You are righteous because of Jesus. You are healthy because of Jesus. You are generous because of Jesus. You are rich because of Jesus. You are secure and happy because of Jesus.

So stop trying (by your own effort and human strength and determination) to be good,
start being (your new identity)  “you are already good” in Christ Jesus. And only when you accepted Jesus Christ into your life can you start being. And this is the gift that God the Father has  sent to you today. He gave His own son Jesus Christ to take our place on the  cross, suffered and humiliated for all our sins and failures and not His; so  that you can take on His righteousness as a gift and not by our doing and trying to be good.

Accepting Jesus Christ into  your life is simple. It is for all and you don’t have to go to church to get  someone to pray for you or make yourself right before you accept Jesus.  Just like what Jesus said “Come unto me, all you who are weary and are heavy laden and I will give you rest”. Remember it is a gift and it  is all about Jesus. He did not say make yourself right before you come to me. He  said “Come” as you are. It doesn’t matter what condition you are in. Come unto  me because I love you and that is why I gave my life for you.
You can pray anywhere you  are and in whatever situation/condition you are in. You can even pray silently  in your heart and say “Lord Jesus thank you for taking my place and dying for  all my sins on the cross.  I accept you as my Lord and Saviour today. Amen”.
To receive your “Christ-likeness” is easy but to try to earn it is difficult. So always remember you are no more you, you are in Christ Jesus and it is a gift from God the  Father.  Amen and all praise to Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
